Why do you enjoy doing things yourself? Is it the satisfaction of accomplishing something? Or doing it to save money? No matter your reason, here’s a Tutorial Thursday for our foodie and DIY cook crowd that includes some of your favorite restaurant recipes.
For the last couple years, every Wednesday, you’d find me at Bonefish Grill devouring my favorite appetizer ever, Bang Bang Shrimp, because they offer it as a $5 special. If we had something that night I couldn’t miss, I’d order a couple to pick up and take home – it’s perfect in salads or Thai noodles with veggies. Then my wife realized that we spent almost $520 during those years on Bang Bang Shrimp (…opps!), so she had an amazing idea: try to copy their recipe.
Now, my wife is an amazing cook, and if anyone were up to the task, she was. So she started tolling away in the kitchen, and after numerous attempts, she couldn’t get it quite perfect (although, there were a couple tries I think that were better). So she took to the internet, and sure enough, found a recipe that was almost spot on. So we’ve been able to cut our $10 a week expense down to about $4, which left us thinking: what else could we find? Were there other recipes inspired by a well-known restaurant dish?
C’mon, you know there are. So we’ve polled our staff here, and for our first installment we’ve selected six of our staff’s favorites for you to easily make at home! Bon Appetite!
